Sacramento County deputies are investigating a gun violence incident that took place on April 18 2026 at Howe Park while law enforcement were shutting down a large unauthorized gathering of a crowd of several hundred.
Prior to the Shooting
Law enforcement were first dispatched to Howe Park at about 6:30 PM after learning of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Following that, another report was received describing a possible physical fight unfolding at Howe Park.
A sheriff's airship scanned the area from the air but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Even so, authorities discovered that a massive group had come together at the location in an unauthorized manner.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Responding units set about removing people from the park by positioning themselves around the crowd and issuing commands over loudspeakers telling the hundreds present to clear out. Approximately 15 minutes were spent for people to comply.
It was during this dispersal that between 20 and 25 rounds rang out. The shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Law enforcement quickly moved to finding those who had been shot.
Those Who Were Hit
Altogether, four victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The victims — comprising three men and one woman all reportedly in their early to late twenties — were transported to area medical facilities. Hospital staff confirmed that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one had moderate injuries, and one person's injuries were considered minor. As of last report, all four were in stable condition.

The Investigation
The center of the incident was determined to have occurred adjacent to Cottage Way near the local Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Crime scene investigators recovered additional shell casings on Cottage Way. Bullet holes were discovered in the wrought iron perimeter fencing alongside the Home Depot store. These discoveries pointed to that at least one shooter had been sending rounds south from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot store. The nearby Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly well into the night.
Suspects Detained
Reports confirmed over police scanner frequencies showed that a Kia had been detained in an area within Solano County. Four individuals were taken into custody. Sacramento law enforcement were sent to retrieve the detainees to transport the detainees for investigation. Video reviewed at the scene made clear that two shooters had been involved.
